Background

Shirley Farrell, founder and Principal Consultant at HR Management Services began her career in Management within the retail and hospitality sectors and found a natural talent and passion for people management while employed with Australian Leisure & Hospitality (ALH) which at that time was owned by the former Fosters Group a global beverage company.

Moving to Queensland in 2002 to become HR Manager, Queensland for ALH, Shirley's small HR team successfully supported and partnered the running of 50 hotels and 100 bottleshops. Spread from Cairns to the Gold Coast and with a Head Office in Brisbane, the business employed over 3000 staff. During the period of 2002 – 2004, ALH Queensland enjoyed the highest growth for any region within the group and most importantly the highest average, individual performance in terms of human capital.

Shirley spent the following years developing a comprehensive outsourced HR Consulting service for an Executive Recruitment Consultancy before establishing HR Management Services in 2008 and continues to service the growing demand for outsourced, professional advice in managing people issues.

Career Highlight

In 2006, Shirley assisted Sunstate Cement to win a national HR Award for the "Best Mature Age Workforce" initiative, taking a business which 18 months prior to her involvement had no HR systems, to being an Australian national Award winner. Shirley counts this achievement as a very proud moment in her career.
