What Employers Must Know About Flexible Work Arrangements


Have you received a request from an employee for "Flexible Work Arrangements?"

Under the National Employment Standards that apply to every Australian worker, and employee has the right to make a request for flexible working arrangements to care for a child under school age, or a child (under 18) with a disability.

Employers must respond to any such request within certain time frames.  If you have received such a request, the first thing to do is:

  1. Ask the employee to put their request in writing, and then
  2. Download the checklist available here and follow it through

To not respond to such a request could lead to penalties under the Fair Work Act which could include adverse action and discrimination.
